Did 'SFX' Magazine leave out women?
By Superheidi on March 2nd, 2010
On Saturday Feb 21, 2010, author Maura McHugh, aka 'Splinister', wrote a blog post entitled 'SFX forgets women in horror', and the result has been nothing short of huge.
McHugh's article noted that out of 34 horror industry professionals interviewed for an important article in the U.K. SFX Magazine Issue # 192 about their favorite horror movies and books, not one was a woman. Of all their answers, she further points out, only one recommended the work of a woman...
Shannon Donnelly's article 'Revenge of the Scream Queen'
By Superheidi on September 30th, 2009
Journalist Shannon Donnelly has written an interesting piece on the subject of feminism in modern horror films for The Daily Beast entitled "Revenge of the Scream Queen". It includes an interview with Jennifer's Body director Karyn Kusama and lightly touches on the issue of having a strong woman in front of, and behind, the camera of a horror film.
Diablo Cody on cover of Bust Magazine
By Superheidi on July 30th, 2009
"The Prime of Miss Diablo Cody" is a new article in the August/September '09 edition of feminist/pop culture slave Bust Magazine by Jill Soloway.
Referred to in the article as 'beautiful and brainy' as well a 'genius', it is clear that Cody embodies the high level of pretentious modern 'makeup as a feminist statement' philosophy to which magazines like Bust cater. Focusing mainly on her new movie Jennifer's Body (rip off of a Hole song, did you say?) which is about women using their sexuality and lame neuvo-interweb slang to tear apart men's genitals (clearly only something a feminist would do), Soloway basically rehashes what large horror websites have already done: drool over her...
'Horror Films & The Women Who Love Them' in July 31st 2009 Edition of Entertainment Weekly
By Superheidi on July 30th, 2009
If you happen to read the mind-numbing drivel that is Entertainment Weekly, you'll have noticed an awesome article in the July 31, 2009 issue titled “Horror Films... and the Women Who Love Them!” by Christine Spines. The article mainly discusses how women are a driving force behind the success of a horror movie at the box office.
Check out this neat excerpt from the article...
Megan Fox sluts it up in Gorezone Magazine Aug issue
By Superheidi on July 12th, 2009
On sale Ausgust 9th '09, the new issue of U.K. horror rag Gorezone Magazine features Megan Fox (Toe Thumb, Transformers 2) wearing a swimsuit and saying really pretentious, vapid things about Michael Bay and Shia LeBeouf that she thinks are brilliant. There's also an in-depth discussion about her new role as 'Jennifer' in the Diablo Cody-written, Karyn Kusama-directed, Jason Reitman-produced (did I ever mention that I went to high school with Jason, and that the only reason he's a director now is because his father is, er, 'Ivan' Reitman, the rich famous director? Anyway) horror movie Jennifer's Body (yes, that's stolen from a Hole song).
Gorezone is a great magazine - and if you're going to be inundated by Megan, best that it be done through them...
Maxim's SciFi Goddess list: James Bond isn't Sci-Fi, Dorkwad
By Superheidi on May 4th, 2009
Maxim's Gorgeous Geek Goddess List of Sci-Fi Starlets which appeared today on Foxnews, lists the hottest women in 50 years of sci-fi films. Of course, Ursula Andress is the top, from her awesome appearance in 1962's James Bond movie Dr. No. It also only lists one women from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, with almost zero description following each image of Wonder Woman, Kelly LeBrock, Natasha Henstridge, and (blech) Megan Fox.
RIP Sirens of Cinema Magazine
By Superheidi on January 16th, 2009
Sirens of Cinema Magazine, which began under new editorial management with Mike Watt and publisher Robert Kuiper in 2005, is going under due to money issues. Unfortunately, it also looks like the last issue, #14, is the very best they have ever put out!
A strange mix of what awesomeness Femme Fatales Magazine used to be before it got all 'Maxim', and an oddly off-putting, self-serving vehicle for publisher Mike Watt to do 10-page editorial spreads on his own movies starring his wife and those of his close friends, the magazine's rocky history is coming to a close...

Do you hate 'Twilight'? So does Laura Stone
By Superheidi on November 22nd, 2008Thanks to Adrianne Brennan for bringing this awesome blog to my attention: Actress Laura Stone (Blood on the Highway) has a few funny things to say about Twilight. In this hi-larious recap of why the books in the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers suck, the author picks apart the ultra-Mormon message behind the books and laughs at the indescribably bad storyline and dialogue. It's pretty amazing. She also included some fairly memorable pictures to go along with the storyline of the first three books.
The article includes such awesome critiques as 'Meanwhile, Bella feels bad for stringing Jacob along, even though she hasn't, but SMeyers needs tension/conflict and Hot Topic needs to sell shirts' and 'Twilight means never having to say you're kidding.' and my favorite, 'I think this is Smeyers way of lashing out in a safe venue her own frustrations at getting married early and spitting out kids right away. She could never vocalize that, so this is how she's working through her own issues at being a stay at home mom with whining sprogs and a husband that expects dinner on the table and no romance. more on the sprogs in book 4.'
Book One and Book Two, and then Book Three and Book Four
TwilightMoms.com - for the obsessed mommy!
By Superheidi on November 14th, 2008Twilightmoms.com is a website for Moms who love Twilight and the entire Twilight vampire series by Stephanie Meyer. Seriously, these moms love their vampires SO much that they insist that when they're reading the books their lives are "turned upside down". Twilightmoms was created for women to come together and communicate without what they call the "teen mumbo jumbo" - "OMG!!! IMHO Edward is sooo Hawt!!!" Reminds me of Pretty/Scary!
Check out the site if you're a mom and you're a fan!
