Mr. October: Dani Filth
Submitted by Superheidi on 10/03/2009
Either you’re a Cradle of Filth fan, or you’re not, but even if you don’t listen to the music of the amazing metal band fronted by Dani Filth (sort of a cross between a musician, an evil warlock, and a British person), you won’t be able to deny Dani’s filthy charm. The dark enforcer of heavy metal and all things darkness has a surprisingly funny side to go along with his incontrovertible sex appeal. In 2003 he voiced the "Dominator" in the feature-length animated film of the same name and starred in the horror film Cradle of Fear. You can hear his collaborative work with Claudio Simonetti and the band Daemonia on the soundtrack of the Argento horror film The Mother of Tears. Now Dani’s latest creation, The Gospel of Filth, is causing us to get our panties in a tizzy. This collection of essays on the occult, arcane, vampiric, serial-killing, and darkly erotic by contributors like Christopher Lee, Clive Barker, and Anton LaVey is about the influences on Cradle of Filth all infused with Dani’s wicked sense of humor. For all you girls who wanted Red Riding Hood to go home with the Big Bad Wolf or wished that those evil Victorians would just let Dracula and Mina have their little love story, I give you Mr. October, Dani Filth...
Mr. September: Eli Roth
Submitted by Superheidi on 09/09/2009
Interview by Staci Layne Wilson
Eli Roth is a cutie — he's got those dark-chocolate brown eyes and a sweet smile that could charm even the most hard-hearted Hannah. But Roth is also a complete, total and utter Basterd. He's best-known for making some of the most violent, grisly, and controversial horror movies of the 00's. His feature length horror films Hostel and Hostel II shocked the mainstream, as did his over-the-top fake movie trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse double-dip (in his slasher-trailer Thanksgiving, Roth gives 'cheerleader splits' and 'stuffing the turkey' whole new meanings). He’s also gearing up make a feature-length version of Thanksgiving and a PG-13 creature-feature called Endangered Species.
So what's a nice boy like Eli doing in Tarantino's latest movie, Iglourious Basterds? Why, killing Nazis, of course! And not just killing them… he's beating, scalping, burning, and basically putting on the hurt in every way imaginable as a psychotic soldier known as "The Bear-Jew". Pretty/Scary caught up with the director-turned-actor, and here is what he had to say...
Mr. August: Scott Norton
Submitted by Superheidi on 08/03/2009
For sweltering August, which is the best way to bring to mind the opiate-addicted romance of the Romantic poet hunks like Keats, Coleridge, Shelley, and of course, the syphilitic-but-sexy Lord Byron? By checking out a sexy horror writer! Scott Norton is the modern day equivalent of a gothic romance hero; except that he’s nothing like one. Between writing his successful horror fiction like HorrorCon and sWitch, he’s busy being a dude playing in a band and bewitching the world with his wit and charm. Oddly enough, this hunk spends most of his time indoors writing frightening things; think of him as the ‘Ted Bundy’ of horror – he’s funny and charming and you’d probably get in his car if you were hitchhiking, but there’s just something a little ‘off’. Is it merely that he’s from some ocean seaside-place with the wind blowing and the sand perfect for burying your corpse? Or is it something far far worse? Whatever – throw away your self-esteem (like you had any!) and just go for the cute guy who makes you laugh. Check out Scott...
Mr. July: Corin Nemec
Submitted by Superheidi on 07/02/2009
Corin Nemec: You might remember him from his more recent roles in the sci-fi horror movie Mansquito or his turn as mass murderer Richard Speck in The Chicago Massacre (or not); but you’ve probably been impressed by him as the sexy Jonas Quinn on the Sci-Fi Channel’s series Stargate: SG1. However, there may even be those of you who loved him first as Parker Lewis on the eaaaarly 1990’s TV series Parker Lewis Can’t Lose – in which Corin played Parker, sort of a cross between Ferris Bueller and Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell. Corin’s latest movie is Bundy: A Legacy of Evil, released by Barnholtz Entertainment and Lionsgate on DVD July 21, in which he tackles the role of serial killer Ted Bundy, renowned for his charm and good looks with which he lured dozens of women to a grisly death. Corin stopped by Pretty Scary to do his best Bundy impression, discuss beating up Mark Paul Gosselar, and how he likes to stalk women. And be our Mr. July. Enjoy Corin...
Mr. June 2009: Mike J. Nelson
Submitted by Superheidi on 05/31/2009
Mike J. Nelson is arguably the funniest man alive. And you know what they say – “make ‘em laugh, make ‘em breakfast!” (Or is it just my ex husband that says that?) In any case, Mike became every nerd girl’s biggest crush when he became the host of the awesomely amazing ‘mock bad movies’ TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the early 90’s (he also wrote and directed episodes) and made us see the humor in bad b-movies (other than the fact that they were bad b-movies). Now he’s launching Rifftrax, a website where you can download on-demand Mike’s sarcasm! Mike is our Scary Stud of the Month because I think he’s cute in a dorky, fun, b-movie-riffing, nice-arms kind of way (and you do too!) Behold the glory of Mike, stripped down (not really) and hardcore (depends on your definition of that word) for your reading (reading is fun!) pleasure...
Mr. April: Robert Patrick
Submitted by Superheidi on 04/01/2009
Behind the icy blue eyes and heavily muscled arms of sexy actor Robert Patrick lies something you'd least expect: a great sense of humor. No, seriously! The man most famous for portraying the evil T-100 model in Terminator 2 actually gets to show his funny side in his new sci-fi comedy Alien Trespass, out April 3rd in theaters. "I prefer to have more female fans than male fans," says Robert. "I got into this business for the ladies." Which is why he was happy to be our Mr. April 2009. Robert has starred in the horror films The Faculty, Decoy, and the recent Autopsy; the action/thrillers Last Gasp and Zero Tolerance; the TV series The X-Files; the Roger Cormon apocalyptic joyrides Warlords from Hell and Futurehunters; and even now stars in the TV series The Unit. Feast your eyes on the awesome awesomeness that is Robert Patrick...
Mr. March 2009: Billy Garberina
Submitted by Superheidi on 03/03/2009
If Eric Stolz and Kevin Bacon were gay and had a genetically engineered child using both of their DNA with which to share their love, but that child ended up straight and his name was Billy Garberina, then Billy Garberina would be a lot like that kid except probably way less rich. Garberina is a guy-next-door sexy goofball with nice broad shoulders who you may have seen in the indie horror releases Feeding The Masses, Gimme Skelter, and The Stink of Flesh. He directed and starred in his own indie horror comedy Necroville, out last year, and will appear in the upcoming horror films Dozers, Braincell, and Wicked Wood in 2009. You will also catch his wacky antics in Low Budget Pictures' Deathbone the Barbarian. As Deathbone. Billy is our Scary Stud of the Month and he's here to make you laugh. I mean, to make you drool. I mean, maybe both...
Mr. February 2009: Tom Atkins
Submitted by Superheidi on 02/03/2009
Tom Atkins is the studly, manly, rugged, old-school-kick-your-ass-with-a-mustache classic horror hero that women can only dream about seeing on screen these days. Luckily, we were able to catch Tom Atkins in his recent appearance in the My Bloody Valentine 3-D remake, but it's his performance in films like Halloween III and The Fog that make him a horror legend. Charming, but always a man's man, this guy's the real deal. His warm deep voice and strong hands and amazing demeanor recall the long-gone days of real men like Charlton Heston, Victor Mature, and John Wayne. "Horror fans are not the complete wackos you would think they would be", says Tom of us. "They're a pretty solid group." Tom has also been in George Romero's Bruiser, the classic Maniac Cop, the horror/sci-fi/comedy Night of the Creeps, and John Carpenter's classic Escape from New York. Tom is our Scary Stud of the Month for February 2009, and he's one hell of a stud, if you don't mind us saying so;
Scary Stud of the Year 2008: Terrance Zdunich
Submitted by Superheidi on 01/30/2009
Mr. November 2008, Terrance Zdunich, was recently crowned Scary Stud of the Year 2008. This gorgeous, artistic and tantalizingly down-to-earth gentleman will forever be etched in the horror film fan's memory as The Graverobber in the musical/goth extravaganza Repo! The Genetic Opera. He recently took 'the show on the road' in the Repo! Road Tour, all accross the USA, meeting fans (and probably some stalkers, too.) Terrance accepts his crowning of Sexiest Man in Horror of 2008 will all the grace and humilty you'd expect from a drug-dealing graverobber in a semi-post-apocalyptic world ruled by a capitalist elite. Re-meet Terrance!...
Mr. December: Parry Shen
Submitted by Superheidi on 12/03/2008
Parry Shen is the hottest Asian man to ever appear in a horror film. It’s a fact. While Ichi the Killer’s Tadanobu Asano gives him a run for his money, Parry steals the niche with his stellar performances in The Hazing (2004, alongside Tiffany Shepis), Attack of the Sabertooth (2005), Shrieker (1998), Hatchet (2006) and the recent thriller Rule of Three (2008). Parry’s also been on TV in episodes of awesome genre shows like Tru Calling, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenaged Witch, and Veronica Mars as well as Mad TV. You might be thinking, “I’ll bet he usually plays ‘Hot Asian Dude’”. Well, you’d be right. But not always right. Because Parry’s sense of humor and real acting talent has given him lead roles in movies that usually don’t go to Asians. He’s got a sci-fi flick called The Gene Generation coming out on January 9th from Lionsgate, as well as Adam Green’s (Hatchet) latest concept: Fairy Tale Police, in which he co-stars with Rachel Leigh Cook. Parry’s just friggin’ awesome, basically. Enjoy this hot guy with EXTRA soy sauce – he’s that good (was that tacky?)…
