Scary Studs

Mr. March: Sean Patrick Flanery

Sean Patrick Flanery in 'The Dead Zone'Interview by Kayley Thomas

Sean Patrick Flanery – When I told Heidi I’d set up an interview with him for Pretty/Scary, I think her heart might have stopped momentarily. Mine may have skipped a beat too. There’s a lot to love. He had that cute and creepy thing going for him in Powder. He was simply adorable (I mean, very manly) as Young Indiana Jones. He had the honor of getting ganked by Christopher Walken in Suicide Kings. He’s brought us some serious (and not-so serious) scares in Demon Hunter, The Masters of Horror’s The Damned Thing, Kaw, and The Insatiable, as well as episodes of Charmed, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, and more recently, The Dead Zone. And he’s got some more sf/f and horror in the works: Deadly Impact hits DVD this April with Mongolian Death Worms and Scavengers slated for later in 2010. Plus, he’s pretty easy on the eyes and a sweet, funny guy...

Scary Stud of the Year 2009: Billy Garberina

Scary Stud of the Year 2009 Billy Garberina graciously accepts his crown and graces us with an update on his new films, his low-paying career path, and his utter elation at being the sexiest man in horror of the past year. Votes don't lie, folks!

Read about how awesome Billy is. I dare you.

How does it feel to be a Scary Stud of the YEAR?

It makes me feel 12 times more sexy than being Sexy Stud of the Month!...

Mr. February: Chad Lindberg

Interview by Kayley Thomas

2010 is the year of the Lindberg. The 33-year-old actor’s no stranger to the business, mind you. If you didn’t catch his early debut in Black Circle Boys, that’s a little horror flick you’re probably going to want to check out regardless. You might also have seen him in an episode of The X-Files or Buffy the Vampire Slayer once upon a time. Or maybe you remember him as Jesse in The Fast and the Furious or O’Dell in October Sky? With starring roles in films like Punk Love, The Other Side of the Tracks, and Push, plus recurring roles in recent years on Supernatural and CSI: NY, Chad’s been a busy man, but rest assured, you’ll be seeing more of him soon. He’ll be joining interviewee Sarah Butler in the upcoming I Spit On Your Grave as well as reprising his role as the mullet-rocking, 'Dr. of Bad-Ass', Ash, in this season of Supernatural...

Mr. January: Kevin Sorbo

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Fabio weren’t totally gay? The answer is "Kevin Sorbo". This all-American hunk made a name for himself as the studly, oft-shirtless Hercules on the mid-1990’s TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. 6'4" Kevin has since played the tall handsome dude in Kull the Conqueror, Walking Tall 2, and the sci-fi TV series Andromeda. You might have seen him in the 2008 horror film Never Cry Werewolf or the sci-fi flick Something Beneath. He just wrapped the new fantasy movie Tales of an Ancient Empire and the comedy series Wolf Canyon, and he makes an appearance as Mr. Phoenix in the exploitationsploitation flick Bitch Slap, out this month in theaters. Kevin is so sweet and devastatingly handsome that he’s quite possibly the sexiest Scary Stud of the Month we’ve ever had. He exudes sex appeal and charm, and it isn’t hard to see why he has thousands, maybe millions, of die-hard fans around the world who just can’t stop staring at his arms. Enjoy Mr. January 2010, Kevin Sorbo...

Mr. October: Dani Filth

Either you’re a Cradle of Filth fan, or you’re not, but even if you don’t listen to the music of the amazing metal band fronted by Dani Filth (sort of a cross between a musician, an evil warlock, and a British person), you won’t be able to deny Dani’s filthy charm. The dark enforcer of heavy metal and all things darkness has a surprisingly funny side to go along with his incontrovertible sex appeal. In 2003 he voiced the "Dominator" in the feature-length animated film of the same name and starred in the horror film Cradle of Fear. You can hear his collaborative work with Claudio Simonetti and the band Daemonia on the soundtrack of the Argento horror film The Mother of Tears. Now Dani’s latest creation, The Gospel of Filth, is causing us to get our panties in a tizzy. This collection of essays on the occult, arcane, vampiric, serial-killing, and darkly erotic by contributors like Christopher Lee, Clive Barker, and Anton LaVey is about the influences on Cradle of Filth all infused with Dani’s wicked sense of humor. For all you girls who wanted Red Riding Hood to go home with the Big Bad Wolf or wished that those evil Victorians would just let Dracula and Mina have their little love story, I give you Mr. October, Dani Filth...

Mr. September: Eli Roth

Interview by Staci Layne Wilson

Eli Roth is a cutie — he's got those dark-chocolate brown eyes and a sweet smile that could charm even the most hard-hearted Hannah. But Roth is also a complete, total and utter Basterd. He's best-known for making some of the most violent, grisly, and controversial horror movies of the 00's. His feature length horror films Hostel and Hostel II shocked the mainstream, as did his over-the-top fake movie trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse double-dip (in his slasher-trailer Thanksgiving, Roth gives 'cheerleader splits' and 'stuffing the turkey' whole new meanings). He’s also gearing up make a feature-length version of Thanksgiving and a PG-13 creature-feature called Endangered Species.

So what's a nice boy like Eli doing in Tarantino's latest movie, Iglourious Basterds? Why, killing Nazis, of course! And not just killing them… he's beating, scalping, burning, and basically putting on the hurt in every way imaginable as a psychotic soldier known as "The Bear-Jew". Pretty/Scary caught up with the director-turned-actor, and here is what he had to say...

Mr. August: Scott Norton

Scott, duh!For sweltering August, which is the best way to bring to mind the opiate-addicted romance of the Romantic poet hunks like Keats, Coleridge, Shelley, and of course, the syphilitic-but-sexy Lord Byron? By checking out a sexy horror writer! Scott Norton is the modern day equivalent of a gothic romance hero; except that he’s nothing like one. Between writing his successful horror fiction like HorrorCon and sWitch, he’s busy being a dude playing in a band and bewitching the world with his wit and charm. Oddly enough, this hunk spends most of his time indoors writing frightening things; think of him as the ‘Ted Bundy’ of horror – he’s funny and charming and you’d probably get in his car if you were hitchhiking, but there’s just something a little ‘off’. Is it merely that he’s from some ocean seaside-place with the wind blowing and the sand perfect for burying your corpse? Or is it something far far worse? Whatever – throw away your self-esteem (like you had any!) and just go for the cute guy who makes you laugh. Check out Scott...

Mr. July: Corin Nemec

Corin Nemec: You might remember him from his more recent roles in the sci-fi horror movie Mansquito or his turn as mass murderer Richard Speck in The Chicago Massacre (or not); but you’ve probably been impressed by him as the sexy Jonas Quinn on the Sci-Fi Channel’s series Stargate: SG1. However, there may even be those of you who loved him first as Parker Lewis on the eaaaarly 1990’s TV series Parker Lewis Can’t Lose – in which Corin played Parker, sort of a cross between Ferris Bueller and Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell. Corin’s latest movie is Bundy: A Legacy of Evil, released by Barnholtz Entertainment and Lionsgate on DVD July 21, in which he tackles the role of serial killer Ted Bundy, renowned for his charm and good looks with which he lured dozens of women to a grisly death. Corin stopped by Pretty Scary to do his best Bundy impression, discuss beating up Mark Paul Gosselar, and how he likes to stalk women. And be our Mr. July. Enjoy Corin...

Mr. June 2009: Mike J. Nelson

It's Mikey!Mike J. Nelson is arguably the funniest man alive. And you know what they say – “make ‘em laugh, make ‘em breakfast!” (Or is it just my ex husband that says that?) In any case, Mike became every nerd girl’s biggest crush when he became the host of the awesomely amazing ‘mock bad movies’ TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 in the early 90’s (he also wrote and directed episodes) and made us see the humor in bad b-movies (other than the fact that they were bad b-movies). Now he’s launching Rifftrax, a website where you can download on-demand Mike’s sarcasm! Mike is our Scary Stud of the Month because I think he’s cute in a dorky, fun, b-movie-riffing, nice-arms kind of way (and you do too!) Behold the glory of Mike, stripped down (not really) and hardcore (depends on your definition of that word) for your reading (reading is fun!) pleasure...

Mr. April: Robert Patrick

Behind the icy blue eyes and heavily muscled arms of sexy actor Robert Patrick lies something you'd least expect: a great sense of humor. No, seriously! The man most famous for portraying the evil T-100 model in Terminator 2 actually gets to show his funny side in his new sci-fi comedy Alien Trespass, out April 3rd in theaters. "I prefer to have more female fans than male fans," says Robert. "I got into this business for the ladies." Which is why he was happy to be our Mr. April 2009. Robert has starred in the horror films The Faculty, Decoy, and the recent Autopsy; the action/thrillers Last Gasp and Zero Tolerance; the TV series The X-Files; the Roger Cormon apocalyptic joyrides Warlords from Hell and Futurehunters; and even now stars in the TV series The Unit. Feast your eyes on the awesome awesomeness that is Robert Patrick...
