This is a neat article about a book that was written about young girls and why they love playing horror video games:

The Little Sisters in Bioshock are quite creepy. In some levels it's vital to kill them to survive yourself, but if I can leave them alone I do, just because of how realistic they look. Despite the rumors, bashing in a little girl's head with a wrench just isn't how I like to relax after a long day at work.

Little Esh is a wee bit young to be a full blown horror fan (she's seven, and right now Goosebumps and Monster Squad is as far as she'll wander) but I could see her getting into horror games as she gets older. They're more story driven than 'how fast can you shoot up everything in the room' games and you can relate a lot more to the characters.
