"'Everybody wants to be a hero, or have a hero inside them.' - Jaime King, My Bloody Valentine, The Tripper, The Spirit"
What are you listening to right now?
am i still everyone's friend if I say HOLE and Courtney Love's solo albums?
Lol.. you're still my friend Heidi... because I'll see your Courtney and embarrassingly raise you one Ambrosia "How Much I Feel"... yes it's soft hits of the 70's day here at Fortress Brian. I will never be able to disapprovingly point a musical finger at anyone... ever.
Now I know that this is sacrilege to some, but I've always liked the Foo Fighters way better than Nirvana. I'd hate to think of Dave Grohl wasting away in obscurity had Cobain survived (plus, he plays an awesome Satan.. see the Tenacious D movie. Hi-fucking-larious.)
Oh yeah, Dead Kennedys Holiday in Cambodia ... one of the greatest song intros ever. That East Bay Ray can play.
i loved nirvana. i believed in kurt and i was so looking forward to the REM-inspired follow-up to "in utero" that never happened ("in utero", of course, being a repsonse album to their commercial success and not really a step in any direction) due to somebody's untimely death.
what i will never forget is how i felt the first time i heard nirvana. as a pixies fan, i thought they were super super rad because they took that sound and added a metallic punch. "school" was like our song, my friends and i. and i still like it a lot, it's just a bit more difficult to listen to. i admit i retreated far from rock music and especially nirvana for a long time after kurt died. it's crazy to think kids that were just being born when i first heard nirvana are now the same age i was when i first heard nirvana.
i even remember us arguing what was the better song: "debaser" by the pixies, "school" by nirvana or "hate the police" by mudhoney.
Now THE PIXIES, there's a band I love... The first time I heard them, it was a life changing experience. I was lucky enough (when I was managing a record store) to get front row to see them open for U2 during the Achtung Baby tour. I've seen them 4 times now (including the last reunion tour) All awesome shows. They were incapable of making a bad song. Also through my old record store connections, I was able to attend a luncheon with Frank Black/Black Francis whenever he released his first solo effort. That was the ONE time I think that I was able to meet an artist that I loved and admired and felt totally comfortable talking to him. What a nice and smart guy... now we just need some new material.
I have dated a lot of drummers. I suppose that doesn't count.
I LOVE the PIXIES. they are my ultimate ultimate fave band ever. I have every single Pixies album, single, live album, acoustuc album, BBC recordings, compilation, tribut album, EVERYTHING.
that makes me their biggest fan. And ultimately, better than you.
I flew to Indiana to see them play. How dorky is that?
Mastodon Sleeping Giant ... is teh rox0rz.
are they from atlanta? i think one of my old bands opened for them at the echo lounge in 2001.
Yes.. I think they are. They just played the Gypsy Tea Room here with Totimoshi recently. Quite possibly the loudest show I've ever attended... but awesome musicians.
