Need member advice on advertising on PS...
kay guys.
Anchor Bay has offered PS some money, enough to make it worth our while, to advertise on the site.
They want to buy a 365 days a year spot on our site to advertise their new horror film releases. It would look like this:

I am pretty down with that. they'd pay about 4000 dollars a year just to have that little box with a horror movie ad in it. They'd be responsible for remotely changing the ad from their own site, so there'd be no extra work for me. I am definitely saying yes to this.
However, they offered me other stuff, like this:
A Navigation Bar, which looks like this...

and a complete re-skin:

Now, I find these forms of selling out rather intense and distracting. I don't want to lose the integrity of the site. But they are willing to pay $300 a week for a reskin, and 200 dollars a week for a nav bar. any nav bars and reskins would require work on my part to change the code on the site. Whic is complicated but I'd be getting paid for it.
Help! it's a lot of money, what should I do? would people be turned off by advertising like that?
I need input. All nav bars and skins would be horror-related, so we'd have no Altoids shit. But.. still....... Help. Input. needed.
Are they also expecting you to be exclusive, I am frantically trying to make a banner so I can promote my little weird world. Would this over shadow it??
I'm with Brian, the bottom one is mega full on. Its one thing to say they like Pretty Scary stuff, its another to slap a completely different look on it, the way it is now is special.
My two pence.
PS: how can I shrink my bloody banner to 15k? Messages in words of non-techno babble please, I'm british.
I'm glad that PS is finding some advertisers, and I will be far more likely to pay attention to Anchor Bay releases if they advertise them here, regardless of what ad package you choose to go with. The same is true for anyone else who cares to release a horror film, or a product of interest to women. Companies, businesses and artists who support this site will receive my support and a much greater share of my attention than they would ever otherwise receive. This is true of the actors/directors who serve as "Stud of the Month", the studios that provide us with interviews and promotions, and the films and companies that advertise here.
This site is one of the very few which I regularly visit and read content from, no matter how busy my school and work day becomes. And this is the only horror site that I am willing to write for at present (although I must admit, it has been too long since I turned in an article. Damn you Ilse!).

I'd like to draw everyone's attention to the new Anchor Bay perma-ad we have on the front page of the site. It'll be there all year, and will rotate Anchor bay horror releases.
Yay! we have REAL advertising on the site!!!!
Sorry if the movies in there suck at times.
That's why they call it Selling Out!
But the main point is that now PS will officially, not only pay for its own upkeep, but will actually make some extra dough that will go towards promoting the site and whatever makes PS better. YAY!
And the more people visit the site, the more we can charge the advertisers, so lets keep trying to make people come here.
Mike, has Gorilla Nation approached you, too?
I find them really easy to work with, very nice and efficient, and they don't make you put up any ads you don't like. You always have the option to veto a potential ad before it goes up, at your discretion. They pay a decided amount per click, and a decided amount for every time the ad is reloaded on the site. I think these amounts depend on how much traffic you get, etc., and are negotiable. At least, ours were.
They have a great tech support team, as well, that helps you if you have any code issues.
If you get the chance, and don't mind the way the ads look (you'll have the same type of ads that you see here), I say go for it.
Mike, lemme know if you have any trouble with the tags and your php code.. I have a neat template that will allow you to place javascript in any of your blocks/boxes and it workes really well. I had to come up with it on my own because the nuke people didn't have a template for that.
That sounds so dirty
Don't worry, I read it as dirty. There's too many inuendos in there not to read it as dirty.
I had a reply stating that I wanted Heidi to tug my wiki while I lick her SCSI drive...but I got banned again.
Actually, postnuke has php script as one of the options for building new blocks...so it shouldn't be an issue. I'm just waiting for the darned guy to contact me back (he had to verify we were busy enough to do business with).
He talked about running one across the top (my admin message block), one on the left (just a left php block) and across the bottom (my footer section) - so it should be pretty easy to inject their code.
Hehe...I said inject.
Mike, is that Good German poster you have up an individual ad sale you have in your standard banner rotation?
I have been thinking of adding a banner ad at the bottom of this site as well.. I am afraid it might be too distracting. What do you guys think?
I rarely see the bottom of the page...and it adds to your impression count. I say go for it.
I don't know if we were too small for the gorilla nation, or I have a horrible phone voice, but the dude I was dealing with won't call me back!
Around New Year's he was all set to get his gurus to send me some code to start running their ads, then nothing. My emails and voice mails don't get returned.
Grrr! We didn't call it bums corner just to be witty! We need some scratch in our pockets to get some T-Bird!
OMG I can't believe you've never done a rectal bong hit, steve.
I don't know why you always seem to think about something involving me and some sort of bizarre ritual. Unless you want me or something. Nah, can't be that.
Arinn and I were doing those back in gradeschool,
man.....
That must have gotten you in trouble when they caught you smoking in class

Would it be other random companies? Or just Anchor Bay? (which I personally think is a fine company)
The bottom one seems a bit too invasive to me... but the others aren't much different than any other website.... just PLEASE don't let them do that crap that makes every other word in the articles a link to something.
