Stephenie Meyer: Sued for Plagiarism

huh?So, some unknown author named Jordan Scott claims that Stephenie Meyer plagiarized her novel that no one has ever read called The Nocturne in parts of the Twilight Series book Breaking Dawn (which I wish was called Breaking Wind because that would be funny.) Even though the people at TwilightLexicon (yes, that's a site) did a copyright search and proved that Forever Dawn (the original name of Breaking Dawn) was copyrighted on Jan 5, 2004 and Scott's book The Nocturne was copywrighted nearly 4 years later on September 19th, 2008, this lame-ass lawsuit exists and a lawyer has actually taken it.

Yahoo News reported that Scott insists the following points are too similar to be anything but copied...

- Both books feature a wedding between a vampire and a non vampire.

- Both Books involve a vampire and a regular human having sex on a beach.

- Both books have a scene where the female character discusses the experience of going from human to a vampire.

- Both books have the lead vampire character referring to their wife as 'love'.

Oddly enough, though this obviously seems like a grab for money from an extremely incompetent person, Scott is not seeking any monetary damages.

Meyer released this official statement:

“The claim that Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim. Ms. Scott’s attorney has yet to furnish us with a copy of the book to support this claim as requested.

The world of The Twilight Saga and the stories within it are entirely the creation of Ms. Meyer. Her books have been a phenomenal sensation, and perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success. This claim is frivolous and any lawsuit will be defended vigorously.”

Oh. So, Twilight is totally original and not at all a rip-off of other ideas like Buffy/Angel dating, Dracula being in love with Mina Harker, or Countess Carmilla Karnstein being in love with her female companion? Everything is a rip-off of everything, I guess.

Good luck to Jordan getting her seemingly shitty novel some more attention.

Twilight is such a simple and

Twilight is such a simple and unimaginative story that I can't fathom that it plagiarizes anything; what it's guilty of is being derivative and dull.

Anyway I seem to remember Lestat having gay sex on the beach in one of the novels from the 90's as well. Maybe they got that scene from Anne Rice Tongue
