Reviews I do NOT wanna write
Sometimes I get requests to review books/films/whatever that are so NOT what this site does, and also that I would realy totally puke over if I had to review them. Esp thoseheartwarming novels about modern women and crap like that. Examples:
Dear Editor/Producer:
Cathy Corcoran explores the modern themes of alcoholism, homosexuality and economic difficulty in her engrossing and absorbing debut novel, Magic Happens (iUniverse, November 2008). Kate Driscoll is a suburban mom and a recovering alcoholic who lives near Boston with her engineer husband and their five-year-old daughter Meghan. When Bob’s business goes broke, Kate finds that even her regular AA meetings don’t help with the money worries, so she turns to a local gym for stress relief. “The gym was cheaper than psychotherapy and seemed to work just as well,†says Kate. Though she describes herself as a “restless heterosexual,†Kate is soon horrified to find herself falling in love with Lou, a female instructor at the gym. Kate’s affair with Lou carries her through increasing financial difficulties and her husband’s growing depression until she is forced to make a decision that will shape the rest of her life. In Magic Happens, Kate learns that, no matter what happens on the outside, the answers to her problems lie within. With rich prose and evocative detail, Corcoran writes effortlessly about the obstacles all women face to balance life, love, success and failure, and the truth we must find within ourselves when we are on the verge of giving up. As Kate says, “Shit happens, but magic happens too.â€ÂÂ
Cathy Corcoran can discuss many topics with regards to her novel and her writing, such as:
The rising rate of women in Alcoholics Anonymous and the unity found there.
The current economic slump and the toll it is taking on families and relationships.
Sexual identity and the current experimentation women are taking and the “grey†area in female sexuality. Recently on the popular television show, Grey’s Anatomy, two main female characters are developing a romantic relationship but not sure if they are, in fact, lesbians. And Lindsay Lohan recently stated in an interview that even though she is dating a woman, she is not a lesbian.
About the author
Cathy Corcoran has been a columnist and feature writer for The Patriot Ledger, as well as other local and regional publications, and an advertising and public relations executive. She and her husband live south of Boston. This is her first novel.

and here is another good example:
Dear Book Review Editor,
Brenda Janowitz’s first two novels, SCOT ON THE ROCKS and JACK WITH A TWIST, explored the modern woman’s struggle in balancing career and relationship with humor, insight and honesty. New York Times Bestselling author Marian Keyes described Janowitz’s writing as “funny and sweet†and her reviews have been outstanding.
What is it that makes Brenda Janowitz’s writing stand out among other women’s fiction writers? She writes about real life with humor, grace and humility and her characters voices ring true. Janowitz provides levity and enjoyment in her novels that have readers singing her praise.
"Another fun-filled page-turner from Brenda. Every bit as sparkling as the champagne that the bride-to-be's mother is so fond of..."
USA Today international bestselling author Carole Matthews
"A funny, smart, true-to-life novel about being your own woman. Loved it!"
â€â€ÂMelissa Senate, author of See Jane Date and Questions to Ask Before Marrying
"Deliciously entertaining, laugh-out-loud funny and fraught with disaster after hilarious disaster, Janowitz's second novel is engaging, fast-paced and thoroughly delightful. Janowitz pitch-perfect sequel to Scot on the Rocks is a hilarious look at the not-so-holy side of holy matrimony."
â€â€Kristin Harmel, author of The Art of French Kissing
“[A] rollicking debut…. A breezy romantic comedy with plenty of laughs.â€ÂÂ

SYNOPSIS
Based on the wildly popular bestseller from Sex and the City scribes Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, He's Just Not That Into You tells the stories of a group of interconnected, Baltimore-based twenty- and thirty-somethings as they navigate their various relationships from the shallow end of the dating pool through the deep, murky waters of married life, trying to read the signs of the opposite sex... and hoping to be the exceptions to the "no-exceptions" rule.
Gigi just wants a man who says he'll call--and does--while Alex advises her to stop sitting by the phone. Beth wonders if she should call it off after years of committed singlehood with her boyfriend, Neil, but he doesn't think there's a single thing wrong with their unmarried life. Janine's not sure if she can trust her husband, Ben, who can't quite trust himself around Anna. Anna can't decide between the sexy married guy, or her straightforward, no-sparks standby, Conor, who can't get over the fact that he can't have her. And Mary, who's found an entire network of loving, supportive men, just needs to find one who's straight.
If you've ever sat by the phone wondering why he said he would call, but didn't, or if you can't figure out why she doesn't want to sleep with you anymore, or why your relationship just isn't going to the next level... he (or she) is just not that into you.

He's Just Not That Into You, Bitch tells the stories of a group of twenty- and thirty-something horror movie rejects as they navigate their various relationships while maintaining a career in cheap adult horror movies.
Gigi just wants a man who can scream like a girl--and does--while Alex advises her to stop killing all the losers she dates. Beth wonders if she should take the role of victim in Fox's latest reality show, I Roomed With An Ax Murderer, while her agent, Neil, doesn't think there's anything wrong with spilling copious amounts of blood to get ahead, as long as it's not his own. Janine's not sure if she can trust her latest boyfriend, Vlad, who can't quite trust himself around ten in the evening. Anna can't decide between the sexy Vlad or her straightforward, no-sparks standby, Frankie, who can't get the electric company to home deliver his voltage with a defibrillator. And Mary, who's found an entire network of loving, supportive men, just needs to find one who's not locked up in a pycho ward.

Hey!
What about the four trendy women who are really cannibals into necrophilia? I think they could call it "Sex in the Cemetery." I like the idea of fake reviews, but you should have a stipulation that if any review actually inspires a real movie, the author/creator gets a hefty percentage of the profit. From the way things look at the video store, wouldn't surprise me if something like that was hit by plagiarists (no matter how bad or cliched the ideas were, I bet someone would steal them).
UGH. Count me out.

TOUCHSTONE PICTURES’ “THE LAST SONG” KICKS OFF PRODUCTION IN GEORGIA
Film Stars Miley Cyrus, Kelly Preston and Greg Kinnear
SAVANNAH, Ga. (June 15, 2009) -- “THE LAST SONG,” a coming-of-age drama starring multi-talented singer/songwriter/actress Miley Cyrus, Kelly Preston and Greg Kinnear, begins production in Savannah, Ga., this week. The film is based on best-selling novelist Nicholas Sparks’ forthcoming novel.
Hitting bookstores on September 8, 2009, Sparks’ “The Last Song” is the 15th book published by the novelist whose other books include “The Notebook,” “Message in a Bottle” and “Nights in Rodanthe.” Though several of his books have been adapted to film, “The Last Song” is the first to make it to the big screen within the first year of publication.
“THE LAST SONG” is set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father (KINNEAR) gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenaged daughter (CYRUS), who’d rather be home in New York. He tries to reconnect with her through the only thing they have in common—music—in a story of family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and second chances.
Kinnear (“Little Miss Sunshine,” “Invincible,” “Baby Mama”) stars as the father, and Preston (“Jerry Maguire,” “Addicted to Love,” “The Cat in the Hat”) has been tapped to play the teen’s mother. The film also features Bobby Coleman (“Friends with Money,” “Martian Child”), Liam Hemsworth (“Knowing”), Hallock Beals (“Letters from Iwo Jima”), Nick Lashaway (“The 40-Year-Old Virgin”) and Carly Chaikin (the upcoming feature “The Consultants”).
Julie Anne Robinson makes her feature-film directorial debut with “THE LAST SONG.” Robinson has been twice nominated for a BAFTA (Best Single Drama, “Coming Down the Mountain” and Best Drama Serial, “Blackpool”) and received a Golden Globe® nomination (Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, “Blackpool”). Her credits include a variety of television series, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Weeds” and “Big Love.” Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot, the duo behind “17 Again,” “Hairspray” and “Step Up,” produce; Dara Weintraub (“Superbad,” “Pineapple Express,” “17 Again” is co-producer. Jeff Van Wie co-wrote the script with Sparks.
The creative team also includes cinematographer John Lindley (“Pleasantville,” “You’ve Got Mail,” “Mr. Brooks,” the upcoming “Imagine That”), costume designer Louise Frogley (“Good Night, and Good Luck,” “Syriana,” “Oceans 13”) and production designer Nelson Coates (“The Proposal,” “Antwone Fisher,” “Runaway Jury”).

Synopsis: It’s been a decade since Ben (Duplass) and Andrew (Leonard) were the bad boys of their college campus. Ben has settled down and found a job, wife, and home. Andrew took the alternate route as a vagabond artist, skipping the globe from Chiapas to Cambodia. When Andrew shows up unannounced on Ben’s doorstep, they easily fall back into their old dynamic of macho one-upmanship. Late into the night at a wild party, the two find themselves locked in a mutual dare: to enter an amateur porn contest together. But what kind of boundary-breaking, envelope pushing porn can two straight dudes make? After the booze and “big talk” run out, only one idea remains—they will have sex together…on camera. It’s not gay; it’s beyond gay. It’s not porn; it’s art. But how exactly will it work? And more importantly, who will tell Anna (Delmore), Ben’s wife?
Writer/director Lynn Shelton, director of My Effortless Brilliance and recipient of the “Someone to Watch Award” at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards, expertly mines the biggest ironies of the male ego to hilarious effect. HUMPDAY is a buddy movie gone wild.
