"'Darling, you can't rape a townie.'- Barb Coard, Black Christmas"
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Fuck you Micheal Bay can't you leave our sacred classic horror movies alone! Damn you Hollywood leave the classics alone! I don't know the trailer has some interesting imagery, but its Micheal Bay and well we all know he sucks some major balls, but he is the producer.
But they at least have Clancy Brown and Jackie Earle Haley and well those guys are great and even Thomas Dekker if people are fans of Sarah Connors Chronicles they have him.
I don't know the trailer looks kind of good, but at the same time I have reservations of course.
I'm hoping for that also, that's what they said they were going for making him stay with the original as him being evil as fuck and less dialogue. Also and this is very important I think well and the thought was very scary to me as a child and the overtones was there and you can't deny this and Wes Craven has said this and I remember Job Bob Briggs interviewing him asking him about it. Wes Craven said this was true Freddy Kruger was a child molester he left it out but its implied in the movies.
I know they are going with the whole plot that Freddy Kruger was a nice janitor who may or may not have been the Springwood Slasher. Well I guess a different take on it I suppose.
But I mean the thing that always frighten me in the series is that he was a fucking child molester I posted this a long time ago on all things zombie and maybe on here. I mean its blatantly obvious by comments Freddy has made in the original series, but news paper clippings in NOES 5 like one you can't see it but I can make it out it says "Child molester burned to death". I mean I guess people couldn't deal with the fact that some burned up dude comes in kills you in your dreams but he also molested children I guess was too much to handle. But I mean to me as a kid was fucking terrifying I mean to know that man was a fucking sick bastard before he was a dream demon I mean that always terrified me as kid. I don't know if the remake will explore that territory if they had the balls to do that will I would be very surprised.
Plus the voice is kind of hmm I don' t know different I suppose and the nose I don't know like I like the fact Freddy was a male witch and well I don't if it would of looked good on Jackie or not. But oh well its a remake what can you do.
I will say this though I'm very glad to see Jackie Earle Haley more in the spotlight because he is a great actor I loved his work in Watchmen and Little Children when I found out he was taking on Freddy I felt a little better. Even though I was mad as hell because I hate Micheal Bay and I'm getting sick of remakes especially if you aren't going to stick to the source material.
I really wished they have stuck with doing a prequel because I would have liked to have seen that.
Good one, moonbutterfly. I think you put it perfectly - why can't they leave our classics alone? I was listening to Dead Pit and Uncle Bill and CK were taking the piss out of the new Nightmare trailer. I watched it myself and they were right. This movie looks so bad. I'm a fan of the entire original series except for part 5. I liked part 6, although I think they should have dropped the 3D aspect. Part 6 reminded me of part 2 for some reason - kind of grimy and low key. Part 4 used to be my favorite movie of all time, but I've moved on. I'm sorry but the really-looks-burned Freddy in this new one seems like a publicity stunt, trying to capitalize on Heath Ledgers more realistic Joker makeup. I clicked on the trailer and the first thing I saw was "Michael Bay Presents", and that probably should have been the last thing I saw - meaning I should have just clicked it off right then and there. So far I've seen all the big remakes and hated every last one of them. I'm one of those horror nerds who, when someone tries to tell me why the Dawn of the Dead remake was good, just shuts down and stops paying attention to the person talking.
Yes they are going with this plot
Freddy is supposedly a friendly neighborhood janitor who may or may not have been the original Springwood Slasher, and who may have been framed by the children. What is certain is that Freddy will be the monster who haunts his victim's dreams throughout most of the film.
Which I think is bull shit, Freddy wasn't a nice guy from the beginning he was a evil bastard who killed kids and yes molested them even. If they really wanted to push any kind of button they should say that not imply it say it because we all know that its there.
The part where he goes "I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING" gave me chills and genuinely disturbed me. All the changes that have been made, especially the back story, makeup and voice, have made me very excited and happy about this project. It is pointless just to copy note for note the original character, because that version of the character belongs to Robert Englund forever.
I have been a huge Elm Street fan since the late 80s, and I am happy to see him taken seriously again.
I remember watching the original as a child and LOVING it. (But Gremlins scared the sh*t out of me, for some reason...LOL).
I had this recurring nightmare about being chased from my house by a Freddy-esque villain who, appropriatly, emerged from my dad's horror movie closet (this HUGE walkin closet lined with shelves filled with horror movies). Freddy would chase me down stairs and out onto the front porch, where I would sink into the floorboards. When i managed to get out, he would throw a dead bird at me (we lived in a duplex and my mom cleaned the other side out one day and we found a dead bird--it's haunted me every since). Once I started running again, I would always fall and scrap my kneecaps OFF. Not just a surface wound, literally OFF.
I always found Nightmare to be a 'comfort' movie for some reason. Yes, I'm weird.
I love the new trailer though. Hopefully the movie turns out well!
I have mixed feelings - I think the casting of Freddy is awesome. I really do. When they were initially thinking of Billy Bob Thorton I was upset, but jackie Earle hayley is pretty good.
I think the teenagers will be lame, and (sorry) Thomas Dekker is no Johnny Depp. I fear the direction, dialogue, and general storyline will be bad, and that the editing will be 'cheapie-fast cut' instead of suspense-building.

I've a ton of reservations. I'm open to giving anything a shot; but Platinum Dunes has an established history of mediocre remakes.
I do actually like the idea of Haley in the big role though.
