Mr. September: Kirk 'Sticky Fingaz' Jones

Do you like your coffee like you like your men? Strong, black, and a little sweet? Then you'll love Mr. September. You've probably seen him in House of the Dead 2, Reality Check, and Leprechaun 2, but you probably know him best as "Blade" from the SpikeTV series of the same name. Sticky Fingaz was born Kirk Jones, and is a part of the rap group Onyx. He has since gone on to act and this month the DVD of his Blade TV series comes out. Kirk stopped by Pretty/Scary to chat up the ladies and tell us about his latest projects like the horror anthology Nite Tales....

What's a date with Kirk like?

-I don't know, you'll have to ask the women who survived!

Kirk as "Blade"

How did you get the nickname "Sticky Fingaz"? (Be honest).

-It means "Everything I Touch I Take" - you can interpret that any way you want!

Kirk as "Blade" if "Blade" were really really sexy

How is doing horror different from all the other stuff you do?

-It's all the same thing - except with horror, you have to get bloody and gory. You might be out of energy after the shoot because you really have to exert yourself and make yourself believe you're really terrified. It has to be believable to the viewers.

Blade gets the honies

What do you think of "urban" horror films? (Leprechaun 2, Tales from the Hood, Vampayaz...)

-I love urban horror films and think there should be more of them. Many of them do play on racial stereotypes but there are good Black horror films. BUT, we all know a horror film that actually took place in a real hood would be a lot shorter, because the killer would only last a few minutes out there!

Kirk tells Globalization and over-fishing of northern shrimp farms in a fragile ecosystem to Fuck Off

Are you a fan of the Wesley Snipes portrayal of Blade, or did you avoid watching his performance in order to make the role completely your own?

-I approached the role knowing I was going to "do me". I am a fan of how Wesley portrayed the role, but felt like I had to give it my soul in order to give people a different take on the same character. Essentially giving him a different personality.

What's different on the DVD than what Spike TV originally broadcast?

-More blood and gore! We got away with a lot on Spike TV, but with a DVD you can completely push the envelope. There are some great bonus features on there too.

This is what Blade would look like if he were a basketball player

Tell me about "A Day in the Life". What inspired you to make your own film?

-"A Day In The Life" is a feature film coming out through my company Major Independents. All the dialogue is done in rap vocals. It features A-List actors such Omar Epps, Mekhi Phifer, Ray J, Bokeem Woodbine, Drena De Niro, Clarence Williams III, Faizon Love - the list goes on! Everyone always asks me if I like music or movies better since I do both. I can never come up with a good answer so I decided to merge the two together. It's music AND a film!

Kirk lifts 99,0000 lbs every day, and does 3000 situps

Tell us about Nite Tales and the role you play in that film.

-Nite Tales is sort of like Tales From The Crypt where it's short stories about horrible things. I play a wild, bank-robbing bandit who robs the WRONG bank in a town full of Cannibals. My character gets caught and eaten alive!

Kirk, while sensetive, is also badass

What are your turn-ons?

-A turn on is a woman that's just physically and mentally sexy and strong. She's gotta be doing something with her life, know what she wants - and gets it.

Nast vampires make Blade pout!

Turn offs?

-A turn off is a woman who's the opposite.

Who is the hottest actress in Hollywood right now and why?

-That is such an unfair question. There are a lot of hot actresses in Hollywood right now, but Jessica Alba is doing her thug thizzle right now.

Spiky Pants!

Why do so many rap artists make the transition into acting?

-I think it's a natural progression for rappers to get into acting. Both professions deal with words. I started music and movies simultaneously. The first Onyx album came out in 1993 and I did my first film, "Clockers", in 1994.

Doing his Thug Thizzle, at the end of a long hard day, just like you or I would

What's the most offensive or graphic thing you ever said in a rap song (and if you need to, can you translate it for the white people who might be reading this?)

-That is another unfair question! What's offensive is a matter of opinion. Everything I say is graphic - because I paint a picture with every word.

Man I acutally really liked Blade the series. OK being a serious vamp fan, how could I haven not loved it?
