Lars Von Trier: keeping it real with 'Antichrist' and insults

So, apparently, in Cannes, at a news conference, self-declared
"world's greatest director," Lars von Trier yelled at reporters and defended his new horror movie Antichrist.

I love totally delusional directors who love themselves (Uwe Boll). Who doesn't? Lars really comes off as an asshole, but the kind I'd like to support by reposting about his films...

Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye (obviously not a fan of gore) demanded Lars "explain and justify" the explicit sexual gore in his film and someone else yelled "He's an artist, you're not. He doesn't have to explain anything!"

"I don't have to explain anything," agreed Lars. "You are all my guests here, not the other way round. Anyway, I don't think about the audience when I make a film. I don't care. I make films for myself."

The sexual gore that offended people include a bloody masturbation scene and a leg-drilling sequence that Lars calls "artistic honesty", and saying that if he left them out it would be "like lying."

Lars also said it was "a bit of a pity" one can't actually kill people on screen and putting the blame for the most extreme scenes on lead actress Charlotte Gainsbourg.

"Charlotte took it too far. I tried to, but I just couldn't stop her."

Artistic genius or insane... fine line

I do love it when the artistically eccentric are let loose on the media! I have been looking forward to this film ,as some of the imagery in the trailer's have been haunting and beautiful to look at. However I am not a huge fan of gore, so will have to see how it impacts on the story. Stir it up at Cannes I say, go Von Trier. I'm now keen to hear the reaction to Park Chan-wook's 'Thirst'.
