HI, My name is Cassandra, I am a student at The Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, I am a pre-graduate of Special effects art, I will work for free, all I ask is that I get a copy of the DVD for my portfolio, rest assured I do very realistic, very professional work.

There are quite a few Toronto horror production companies. I am sure they'd be happy to have you on board!
have you thought about an unpaid internship with a small FX company?
Rod@rue-morgue.com , the publisher of Rue Morgue Magazine, or jovanka@rue-morgue.com, the current editor, are both in Toronto and could probably recommend companies that would be happy to have intern. You should email them.
