email 'warnings'
I have a friend who is an 'activist' for the stupidest things at random times. Once, she didn't want anybody to wear walmart flipflops. another time, it was against drinking out of plastic bottles. Another time, it was about putting TV's on entertainment centers. And lately, it's about texting while driving. I know that one's a reasonable and legitimate one.
The bad part is, she sends out these warning emails, always featuring the most disgusting, grisly, gory, real photos. For the flipflops, it was pics of feet with rotting skin all peeling off and oozing. The water bottles had people with huge mouth lesions and cancerous organs. The TV one had real photos of kids crushed under giant TV's that had fallen off of redneck-rigged entertainment centers.
THe latest one, the texting warning was the worst. A car crash, featuring the flattened, bloody, bisected body of some poor asshole. Blood and guts everywhere, highway troopers puking on the side of the road, etc.
I don't mind fake gore. I know it's fake. BUt I don't want to see REAL stuff like that. To make it worse, my SIL and my best friend are both on her email list. While I can handle seeing the gore, they can't. One of them is bipolar and seeing stuff like that sparks massive anxiety attacks. The other just can't handle it. I have to hear about how sick they got, etc, from the bipolar girl's mom, and my brother.
I've told this chick to stop sending them those things out. I've filtered my email so anythign from her with 'warning' in it goes to spam. I warn my friends--who forget to do the same--to not open the emails. Today, I checked my email too late, and I'm getting emails from the one girl's mom already.
I told the chick who sends the stuff to STOP, no more nicey-nice. She's pissed at ME.
Ugh.
Ash, I don't want to be insensitive, since you are aggrivated with this woman and all, but she sounds kind of awesome. She actually had me at "didn't want anyone to wear walmart flipflops", and then it just kept getting better. It's not that I would want to see that gross stuff either, but I laughed like three times while reading this post. Or maybe it's just the way you described it that made it sound fun. Either way, it was pretty cool.
LOL I deleted them.
I roll my eyes at her 'warnings', most of the time. The flipflops and tv ones made me laugh because it's so...random. And wierd. I used to think she was joking, but then when she went off on a tangent at Walmart one day about the damn flipflops, I realized she's serious.
She's also protested frozen veggies and bagged salads (because of frogs getting mashed up in the contents), magic erasers, batteries, artificial flowers, glue-huffing, infomercials, and, most inexplicable, eating on certain days of the week.
She can be an activist for whatever cause she wants. In general, it's amusing and creepy (like her push for the return of conjugal visits to prison inmates). I just wish she wouldn't rub the gore in the more sensitive people's faces.

LOLOL your friend is awesome. The fact that she's offended is rich, by the way, as you were well within your friendship peramteters in telling her so.
PS ther eis a 79% chance this friend, or someone like them, could be me
