Catherine Hardwicke to Direct "Little Red Riding Hood" Revamp

Catherine HardwickeVariety is reporting that Catherine Hardwicke, director of last year's quite popular (if insufferable) Twilight, has signed up for a Gothic retelling of the infamous tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The new film, titled The Girl With the Red Riding Hood is said to be centered around a sort of love triangle. My guess? The werewolf, the woodsman, and of course the randy Little Red Riding Hood herself.

The story of Little Red Riding Hood is an easy target for a heated Gothic romance with werewolf overtones; easy enough that it has been done before. In the Company of Wolves, directed by Neil Jordan and based on a story by Angela Carter, was a beautiful Gothic surrealist film spun directly from the old story made popular by the Brothers Grimm.

Either way, you mix werewolves and women, and you've my attention! A release date may be far in the future, as the busy Hardwicke is also slated to direct Hamlet, If I Stay, 21 Jump Street and Maximum Ride. Whether you love it or hate it, Twilight obviously didn't hurt the woman's resume!
