'Asylum Seekers', 'The Ghost & Us' & 'It Came From Kuchar' at Cinevegas 2009
Horror director Rania Ajami (Katalog, And The Earth Fell Silent Again) is world-premiering her latest horror/fantasy/comedy movie, Asylum Seekers, at the 2009 CineVegas Film festival. She's being joined by several other women and their genre films, like The Ghost and Us by Emily Carmichael and the documentary about underground filmmakers The Kuchar brothers It Came From Kuchar directed by Jennifer Kroot. Included in the lineup is the work-in-progress documentary Beautiful Darling about Andy Warhol superstar Candy Darling...
Beautiful Darling, directed by James Rasin, features never-seen-before footage and photographs, as well as interviews with the people who knew Andy Warhol Superstar Candy Darling. Candy Darling was a fixture in the New York Off-Broadway scene in the 60s, in Warhol films such as Women in Revolt and Flesh, and became a prominent personality in Warhol's circles, influencing such noted contemporary artists as Madonna, David Bowie and Lou Reed. This documentary will use a series of interviews, archival footage, and images from Candy's home in Massapequa, NY. Archival footage includes rare 25 year old interviews conducted by Jeremiah Newton with members of Warhol's Factory and Tennessee Williams. The film features interviews with colleagues, contemporaries and friends of Candy, including John Waters, Peter Beard, Holly Woodlawn, Bob Colacello, Geraldine Smith, Pat Hackett, Ron Delsener, Julie Newmar, Tennessee Williams, Gerard Malanga, Glenn O’Brien, and Michael J. Pollard.
It Came From Kuchar directed by Jennifer Kroot (Sirens of the 23rd Century) is the definitive feature documentary about the legendary, underground film making twins, the Kuchar brothers, known for "low-fi" aesthetic, playful use of no-talent actors, plot-less plots, and theme-less themes. Featuring George Kuchar, Mike Kuchar, John Waters, Buck Henry, Atom Egoyan, Wayne Wang, Guy Maddin, B Ruby Rich, Bill Griffith, and Christopher Coppola.
