Just when we were so excited to have a woman directing an action genre piece (in the past 15 years the only women to do so were Karen Kusama with Aeon Flux, Rachel Talalay with Tank Girl and Kathryn Bigelow) it seems like this film is sucking big chunks before it even comes out. Scary Stud Thomas Jane refused to be in the sequel to The Punisher because he didn't like the script by Kurt Sutter, and now that shooting has finished, writer Kurt Sutter has removed his name from the film. EEK. Things do not bode well for director Lexi Alexander. According to Kurt's blog, http://sutterink.blogspot.com, he says,
"So I've officially removed my name from credit arbitration for Punisher: Warzone." and goes on to say...
"I took my name off the movie for a few reasons. The obvious reason is because I didn't deserve credit. There was very little of my draft that stayed in the shooting script... The other reason I removed my name is because I didn't wantcredit. My pitch, my vision, for the Punisher franchise was something much different... Apparently, I was the only one who shared that vision. I'm not saying my draft was perfect or even good for that matter. God knows, Thomas Jane wasn't fond of it. But it was, in my opinion, a much more interesting direction for the franchise." Today he adds, "Let me say, also for the record, the Punisher: Warzone script is not a bad script, in fact, I think it's a very tight script. My beef, my frustration, was not about the script being good or bad, it was about creative choices... I had hoped The Punisher could be something more unique."
