| Win a book and signed poster for 'Let The Right One In'' |
|
On Friday, October 24, Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet will release their creepy Swedish vampire movie Let the Right One In, the first in their SIX-SHOOTER Series.
A fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy's wish for a friend seems to come true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him with her father. A pale, serious young girl, she only comes out at night and doesn't seem affected by the freezing temperatures. Coinciding with Eli's arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. Oskar becomes increasingly aware of the tragic, inhuman dimension of Eli's plight, but cannot bring himself to forsake her. Frozen forever in a twelve-year-old's body, with all the burgeoning feelings and confused emotions of a young adolescent, Eli knows that she can only continue to live if she keeps on moving. But when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can...

| 'One Missed Call' Sweepstakes! |
|
So I haven't seen One Missed Call yet because I hated the Asian version, and my last date said that the reason he had the herp was Shannyon Sossamyn (but he was a big fat liar, literally, the guy was huge), but they are holding a contest where you can win a DVD of the film I haven't seen starring a girl who may or may not give fat guys the herp, and a Blu-Ray DVD player, which I'm sure will be much more enjoyable than the DVD, which I'm sure is more enjoyable than an incurable STD.

| Two new chances to prove your stuff, girls! |
|
Our fave genre actress ever, Geena Davis (Beetlejuice, The Fly) gives us two new opportunities to strut our stuff. The Geena Davis Institute for Gender in Media has two awesome contests you can enter as a filmmaker.
Create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) based on GDIGM-sponsored research and enter to win a trip to Hollywood to meet a creative rep or agent! The contest is open to females and males, ages 13 through 26. Follow the Official Contest Rules and send in your PSA before December 2, 2008. To dig even deeper into media literacy and the making of a good PSA, click here.
Geena Davis doesn't want any Jane to grow up believing she is only worthy of sidekick status. That's where the I Want to See Jane Campaign for girls and women comes in. YOU can be involved by spreading the word and telling your story, and your story could end up in the first GDIGM documentary! It's easy! Just tape yourself talking about the female character who meant the most to you when you were growing up. For more information and topic ideas, click here. Read the Official Guidelines

Just launched on Halloween, Dance Party Massacre is an apparel line that takes a lot of inspiration from the horror genre. It combines those elements with a sense of fun to play with the idea that we all have demons to conquer, but we can defeat them and then dance all over their dead bodies! To help get the shirts on as many moving bodies as they can, DPM is currently running a contest where you can be entered to receive a FREE shirt!
Dance Party Massacre was formed around the idea that we should do what we want despite (IN SPITE!) what others might think. It's about doing what makes YOU happy, and believing in yourself because that's how you'll SURVIVE. Inspired by horror films of the past and dance parties all around, it's imagery is a combination of horror, fun, color, and danger. The people who wear it realize that life can be cut too short to live with fear in our hearts. We know something is out to get us, but we won't be brought down. We'll DANCE until our feet BLEED and LAUGH until our guts HURT, because they can't harm us if we don't let them!
