Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni best actress nomination!
Actress Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni (Demons 2, Mother of Tears) has been nominated for "Best Actress in a Professional Film" at Fright Nights 2008 in Klagenfurt/Carinthia, Austria for her dazzling performance in the short horror film The Dirt! Fright Nights takes place Oct 27-November 2. The Dirt will be screening at the fest on Tuesday, 28th from 7:15 PM to 7:30 PM and Saturday, 1st from 7:25 PM to 7:40 PM.

Marisa Tomei honored at Hollywood Film Festival
The 12th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Awards will honor Academy Award-winning actress Marisa Tomei with the "Hollywood Supporting Actress of the Year Award" at the festival's Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony, which will take place on October 27, 2008 in Beverly Hills. Marisa Tomei launched her acting career in 1985's The Toxic Avenger from Troma as "Health Club Girl" and was actually uncredited, and recently starred in the horror film Danika.

'Side Effect' wins the Pretty-Scary Film Award at Shriekfest
As proud sponsors of the 2008 Shriekfest Film Festival (run by Denise Gossett) in Los Angeles, California, Pretty-Scary gave the 2008 Pretty/Scary Award for Excellence in Female Horror Filmmaking to the short horror film Side Effect. (read our review). Produced by Krishna Devine and directed by Liz Adams, this female-centric story is a grim and gruesome tale of modern medicine gone awry. Made through the amazing AFI Directing Workshop for Women, Side Effect is one of the most successful horror shorts in the festival circuit this year.
Also recognized at the festival was the amazing Rule of Three (read our review), directed by Eric Shapiro and written and produced by Rhoda Jordan (who also starred) which recieved best Actor/Actress for Rhoda Jordan's amazing protrayal of a young woman about to become the victiom of violence. The terrifying Bane, a UK film, in which 4 women find themselves trapped in a frightening room with surgeons who manipulate and terrorize them, was recognized as best Horror Feature. "The Hercynian Orchid" written by Melisa Ford, won best Fantasy Feature Screenplay, and Diana Kemp Jones' "Scavenger" script won Best Sci-Fi Feature Screenplay. Also at the fest? The female-produced Eel Girl and Le Petit Chef (directed by Annabel Osborne) which came close to winning an award themselves.

Women at the Sacramento Horror Film Festival
Michelle Fatale's 21 minute horror short The Cleaner is the only female-directed short at the Sacramento Horror Film festival.The story of Grace and her struggle with obsessive compulsive disorder and how it affects her relationship with her husband, her job, and every aspect of day to day life is fatale's second film. After a series of unfortunate events, her life begins to crumble before her eyes.
Also screening is Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula, produced by Jennifer Friend and starring Tiffany Shepis. Adrienne King from Friday the 13th and Tiffany Shepis will be there in person as festival guests.

Women at Screamfest LA
Screamfestla.com, the horror film festival in Los Angeles run by the very female but pure evil Rachel Belofsky, will premiere two female-directed horror films this year! Donna Davies's documentary Zombiemania and the co-directed The Collective by Kelly Overton will make their debuts at the fest. Violeta, the animated dark tale by Anna Solanas will be there along with several shorts like Harvest Moon (produced by Alicia G.
